The Covid-19 pandemic has forced companies to struggle with retrenchment across the globe, laying off millions of staff to minimise losses.

In Malaysia, the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) expects at least 1 million layoffs this year with an unemployment rate of 4%.

But, there is still a glimmer of hope for those who are seeking for jobs to remain relevant and while the government has introduce several initiatives through several national economic stimulus packages, upskilling oneself with the relevant knowledge is still the way forward.

The interactive ‘Certificate in Finance and Mortgage Broking’ programme is one initiative that UCSI Extension has introduced with Top Mortgage Solution Sdn Bhd (TMS) to prepare learners, during these trying times, to pursue practical financial knowledge related to industry practices, standards and legislation.

“We believe in providing knowledge for the purpose of enhancement and enrichment because this is a lifelong learning. This practical and interactive programme is designed to enhance your professional acumen and perspective in providing the right advice, financial decision and solutions to your clients,” said Stephen Corneilius, chief executive of UCSI Extension.

He said applying loans to purchase residential properties has become a normalcy, but pointed out that many were still unsure of managing these mortgage effectively.

“This programme targets to raise Malaysians’ awareness of financial management, establishing financial quotient, minimising chances of falling into financial scams, and promoting overall knowledge in financial mortgage,” Corneilius said.

Through this programme, he said, participants would not only gain a sound knowledge of managing their own finances, but would also be able to work in the financial sector.

“This programme gives a clear pathway to the banking industry and provides learners with good employment prospects besides developing financial skills and entrepreneurial thinking among them” said Danny Then, Managing Director of TMS.

This programme will be conducted on the 25 and 26 September 2021 and another half session on the 2 October 2021. All sessions will be conducted online.
